York Councillor to fight Ryedale seat for Labour

Ryedale Labour Party has chosen Paul Blanchard, a York city councillor, as its official parliamentary candidate for the next General Election.

Coun Blanchard, 29, is married to Heather and lives in Heworth, York. In addition to his duties as a local councillor, he runs a small marketing business, is a business advisor and Chair of the York Board of Young Enterprise (a national business-education charity), and is studying part-time to become a barrister. At City of York Council, he is Vice-Chair of Leader’s Advisory/Scrutiny Panel.

Coun Blanchard said, “I know Ryedale well. I have lived in York all my life I live within yards of the Parliamentary boundary and I have many friends across the constituency.v “I look forward to the start of the election and meeting as many constituents as possible to highlight the successes that a Labour government brings to Ryedale: record employment, massive increases in school budgets, more police officers and improved healthcare across the constituency. These are the benefits of a Labour Government that has delivered on its promise.

“A return to the Tory days of the boom and bust economy, chronic unemployment and low investment in public services is something we should all fear. Labour has already delivered but there is much more still to do - we must do more to make people’s everyday lives a little easier. I look forward to fighting my campaign, winning the arguments and ultimately representing the people of Ryedale at Westminster.”
